Podcasting Series: The Case for Getting Started
In 2019, over 100 million people listened to at least one podcast per week.
With so many platforms vying for our attention, podcasts are one of the most powerful tools available for wealth professionals to connect with clients and prospects. The podcast “playing field” is not as crowded as other communication mediums, making it a sweet spot for your marketing toolbox. To put things into perspective, YouTube, for example, has nearly 30 million active channels alone. Podcasts, on the other hand, have yet to break one million.
Below are three key reasons that might compel you to start a podcast:
- Cultivate intimacy: Although you as the host may be speaking to hundreds of people at a time, podcasts are much more personal than other platforms, allowing listeners to feel more connected to you.
- Showcase your voice and personality: Although emails and blogs are effective, they leave out critical elements of communication – namely, tone, and voice inflection. Through podcasts, listeners can easily sense your energy, hear your laugh and get to know your true personality.
- No red carpet required: People are drawn to podcasts because they want to learn more about a specific topic. Regardless of how big or small your social media following is, podcasts are a tool you can use to slowly build a following of interested and engaged listeners who are eager to learn more about topics you are covering.
Beyond the reasons stated above, podcasting is very easy, even for the least tech savvy professionals! You can find a decent microphone online for less than $75 and several podcast software programs such as GarageBand and Audacity are free and easy to use. You could even purchase an entire podcast kit which typically includes a microphone and noise-cancelling headphones for a turn-key approach.
